Jerry treasured his duets with longtime friend and colleague John Kahn, but just as meaningful was the fact that he could do so at the club named for his old friend Bill, whose lifelong friendship was forged at the Trips Festival in 1966, when he saw a side of the brusk promoter that touched him deeply. These two matchbooks document the kind of deeply personal moments that Graham's vision sought to foster, giving Garcia's music the stage it needed to touch the shared humanity that inspired so many listeners. Ephemera from Wolfgang's is incredibly rare. These fragments are relics, matchbooks that speak to the sparks that could ignite when a great promoter and a great artist joined forces.This lot pairs two Wolfgang's matchbooks, each carrying a fan's handwritten note tying it to a Jerry Garcia and John Kahn appearance (one dated 8/28/1984); Kahn was Garcia's closest musical foil for two decades, the bassist at his side through nearly every side project. This single lot gathers the collection's entire Garcia Memorial Stamp Project in one sweep: Montserrat's 1995 and 1996 issues alongside a 1995 Tanzania commemorative — headlined by a complete, uncut 30-stamp "Dancing Bear" sheet and rounded out with hand-numbered six-stamp sets, individual singles, and coveted first-day-postmarked examples, each accompanied by its Certificate of Authenticity.
