Politically and socially active in his community, Manny served as the Founder of the Martin Luther King Committee at UCSC and participated on the UC Water Resources Advisory Board. He also served on the National Advisory Council for Rural Economic Development and on the Board of Directors for the Family Services Agency in Watsonville. He was also instrumental in establishing the Cabrillo Music Festival, and was also one of the founders of the Art Museum of Santa Cruz County (now the MAH). Graphite on paper24 in x 35 in x 1.5 in (framed)Watsonville-based artist Joshua Moreno worked with the sculptures Adam and Eve in the Rodin Sculpture Garden, which depict the figures after their banishment from the Garden of Eden. Focusing on the shifting movement of natural light across their forms, he traced the shadow of Adam on June 13, 2020, from 2:08–5:50 PM, using graphite on a single sheet of paper. The following day, from 2:43–6:08 PM, he traced the shadow of Eve onto the same sheet. He has had solo exhibitions in galleries and museums around the world, including Los Angeles, Italy, South Korea, Scotland, and Belgium. Beck’s work has been featured in the solo exhibitions at Gaa Gallery Provincetown, MA, New Image Art, Los Angeles, CA, Lefebvre et Fils, Paris, FR, and The Pit, Los Angeles, CA. Beck has been awarded residences at Watershed Center for the Ceramic Arts, Newcastle, ME, Township10, Marshall, NC, The Residency Program, Versaille, FR. Beck lives and works in Chicago, IL.&nbsp;Beck’s ceramic practice focuses on the examination of histories within ceramics, and how craft can be weaponized as tools for propaganda. The use of cartoons in her most recent body of work is driven by an investigation of propaganda through familiarity and cuteness. Cartoons are able to convey messages to viewers in a quick, simple, and fun way which makes the use of cartoons effective in rapid distribution of national propaganda.
