Politically and socially active in his community, Manny served as the Founder of the Martin Luther King Committee at UCSC and participated on the UC Water Resources Advisory Board. He also served on the National Advisory Council for Rural Economic Development and on the Board of Directors for the Family Services Agency in Watsonville. He was also instrumental in establishing the Cabrillo Music Festival, and was also one of the founders of the Art Museum of Santa Cruz County (now the MAH). Woven pipe cleaner sculptureSanta Cruz-based artist Don Porcella is known for his large-scale, figurative sculptures made out of handwoven pipe cleaners. He utilizes humble materials in innovative ways to craft a unique and humorous commentary on the human condition. His work can be found in major museums and collections across the world, including The Swatch Art Collection, The West Collection, Tucson Museum of Art, and the Minnesota Museum of American Art. Graphite on paper24 in x 35 in x 1.5 in (framed)Watsonville-based artist Joshua Moreno worked with the sculptures Adam and Eve in the Rodin Sculpture Garden, which depict the figures after their banishment from the Garden of Eden. Focusing on the shifting movement of natural light across their forms, he traced the shadow of Adam on June 13, 2020, from 2:08–5:50 PM, using graphite on a single sheet of paper. The following day, from 2:43–6:08 PM, he traced the shadow of Eve onto the same sheet.
