Her work is painting-based but utilizes a wide variety of media and participatory strategies to explore several reoccurring themes such as the social and ecological implications of the picturesque, the revolutionary potential of nostalgia, the conflict between advertising and ornament in public space, the relationship between art and tourism and the role of art and the artist in our society.Harvey has exhibited extensively in the U.S. and internationally. Her work was included in the 2008 Whitney Biennial. She has had solo museum exhibitions at Turner Contemporary (UK), Museum der Moderne Salzburg (Austria), Laznia Contemporary Art Center (Poland), Butler Gallery (Ireland), Rowan University Art Museum (NJ), the Barnes Foundation (Philadelphia), the Groeninge Museum (Belgium), the Corcoran Gallery of Art (Washington DC), The Bass (Miami Beach), the Center for Contemporary Art (Warsaw, Poland), the Pennsylvania Academy (Philadelphia) and the Whitney Museum at Altria (New York). She has completed large-scale public artworks for the Miami Beach Convention Center, Metro-North’s Yankee Stadium station, New York’s Queens Plaza subway station, Boston’s South Station, the San Francisco Airport, the Philadelphia International Airport, the Andover Internal Revenue Service Offices and the Flemish National Architect, as well as for other venues. She is the author of the recently reissued New York Beautification Project, and her work has been the subject of three monographs to date. She is a graduate of the Whitney Independent Study Program, Yale Law School and Harvard College and attended the Berlin Hochschule der Kunste in Germany. She is the recipient of numerous awards including a NYSCA grant, a Smithsonian Artists Research Fellowship, the Wivina Demeester Prize for Commissioned Public Art and a John Simon Guggenheim Foundation Fellowship. Her work is represented in numerous institutional collections including the Whitney Museum of American Art, Bass Museum of Art (Miami Beach), SMAK (Ghent, Belgium), Berkeley Museum of Art, Bunker Art Space (Palm Beach), Clay Center for the Arts &amp; Sciences (West Virginia), Art Omi, Museum der Moderne Salzburg, Princeton Art Museum, Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art, Gwangju Art Museum (Korea), Centro Galego de Arte Contemporanea (Santiago de Compostela, Spain) and the National Gallery of Art (Washington DC), among others. She is represented by Locks Gallery (Philadelphia) and Meessen Gallery (Brussels, Belgium).

Dana Sherwood: Inside the Belly of the Horse, 2020,&nbsp;silkscreen on paper, 15 x 18 inches, limited edition: 21 of 22,&nbsp; signed on frontThis silkscreen is part of a larger series of work begun in 2019 which depicts various nude reclining women inside the bellies of different animals surrounded by confectionaries, cakes and sweets.Bio: Dana Sherwood is an American artist whose diverse practice explores the relationship between humans and the natural world in order to understand culture and behavior in a changing environment. Employing video, painting and sculpture in her work, nature, often in the form of non-human animals, plays a complex role as both subject and collaborator, asserting its presence and subverting the artists’ perceived control. Sherwood relies upon her own style of magical-realism to portray contact between human and non-human animals as a tool to expand our concept of communication and knowledge, and more importantly to recognize the interconnectedness of our ecosystem. What we can learn from plants and animals when we shift our perception to be more inclusive and open to other intelligences. Her paintings, videos, and sculptures depict ritualized feedings created for animals who live on the frontiers of human civilization such as raccoons, possums, and foxes as well as for our close companion species like horses and dogs. The animals assert their presence and desires as the work reflects on the Anthropocene, and our place in the natural world. Set in a magical, wonderland-esque universe, the work weaves together visually beautiful and occasionally humorous imagery while conveying important messages related to ecology, mythology and eco-feminism.Sherwood's projects investigate alternate ways of communicating with the more than human world around us, with the goal of re-connecting with and learning from the intelligence of the earth. Her paintings, videos and sculptures, are informed by intuitive, magical and ancestral practices in order to create conversation and connection with the wider, more than human world.Since graduating from the University of Maine in 2004 Sherwood has exhibited throughout The Americas, Europe and Australia including solo exhibitions at Nagle-Draxler Reiseburogalerie (Cologne), Denny Gallery (New York) and Kepler Art-Conseil (Paris). Her work has also been shown at Storm King (New York), James Cohan Gallery, The Jack Shainman School, The Fellbach Sculpture Triennial (Germany), Pink Summer Gallery (Italy), Kunsthal Aarhus, The Palais des Beaux Arts Paris, Marian Boesky Gallery, Socrates Sculpture Park, Flux Factory, The Biennial of Western New York, Prospect 2: New Orleans, Scotia Bank Nuit Blanche (Toronto), dOCUMENTA 13, and many other venues worldwide. Her solo exhibition, "Dana Sherwood: Animal Appetites and Other Encounters in Wildness" opened at the Florence Griswold Museum in 2022 with accompanying monograph. This work takes many forms: from sprawling social projects in public space, to intimate drawings, and sonic experiments.Collaboration is at the heart of this practice.&nbsp; Doug’s work has manifested across NYC and abroad, bringing together people from disparate backgrounds into conversation with each other, and intentionally confusing boundaries between artist and participant.&nbsp;Doug has had many roles at Flux Factory since 2005, most notably he was the Residency Director from 2009 - 2014.

They currently reside in Brooklyn, New York and attend the Cooper Union for fine art. Working across sculpture, performance, and writing she examines the relationship between labor, the body, and the performativity of objecthood.

She has exhibited as far afield as the Garage Center for Contemporary Art, Moscow, Russia; the Bienalsur in Cúcuta, Colombia; and the Border Art Biennial in El Paso, Texas, and Juarez, Mexico. Her artwork has been discussed in Artforum, Art in America, and textbooks such as Global Photography: A Critical History (Routledge, 2020.) Her writing has been published broadly, from The Brooklyn Rail to The Los Angeles Review of Books. She holds a BA from Yale University and an MFA from UCLA and is an associate professor at the University of San Diego, leading the photography area in the Department of Art, Architecture + Art History, and affiliate faculty in Africana Studies.
