Beste spent seven years photographing the Norwegian black metal community, a notoriously secretive musical subculture which emerged in Norway in the 1990s as a rejection of the mainstream, and a return to the worship of the ancient Norse gods.&nbsp;This photograph depicts the drummer of Satyricon and 1349 adorned in typical corpse paint makeup as he glares in the mirror.&nbsp; Beste and his camera can be seen on the right hand of the frame, an interesting glimpse inside Beste’s process of documenting the secluded group.&nbsp;Condition as described in catalogue note. If so, this is an attractive shot of the legendary jazzman, rarely seen on the bass. Gaillard, a multi-instrumentalist, performer, and clown of the highest order, was well known for his comedic vocalese in his invented language, "Vout-o-Reenee." An accomplished musician, her performed in the bands of some of jazz's greatest musicians, including Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Parker, Coleman Hawkins, and more.
