Mazrukho.A poem featured in the upper left corner is titled “At an Angle of 40 Degrees”—40 degrees being an idiomatic expression for moonshine—and loosely translates as “it’s easy to kill your family with moonshine/ and make your happy life joyless.”Mazrukho was associated with the Boevoi Karadash (or “military pencil”), a collective of Leningrad-based designers who gained notoriety in the 1940s for their agitprop posters and satirical drawings. Mounted on backing measuring 23 3/8 x 31 in.Exceedingly rare promotional poster for the supposed 1980 film, Vampire from the Crypt, written and performed by The Cramps - pioneers of psychobilly, and one of the first American garage punk bands. The film seems to have never been produced and the poster was designed using stills from an earlier horror film-inspired photoshoot.The design by Alain de la Mata collages photographs of the band, speculated to have originated from the band’s "Garbageman" promotional video shoot. The poster, and the accompanying text culled from their lyrics, reveals a fascination with trash Americana and vintage monster movies for which the band is well known. Borrowing from the comic book series, "Tales from the Crypt," The Cramps re-appropriate the ghoulish and fantastical style and reinvigorate it with their own punk aesthetic.A scarce poster for the little-known and never-produced film by the legendary punk band, and a record of the mythology around the group.Condition as described in catalogue note.
