Edges lightly bumped, and light foxing to upper margin.A rare and stunning depiction of Guevara, printed in Cuba and designed by "the father of the Cuban poster."Duotone poster of Che Guevara’s iconic Guerrillero Heroico portrait rendered in red and black stripes; published by the Instituto Cubano de Amistad con los Pueblos (ICAP) [Cuban Institute for Friendship with the People], a socialist enterprise dedicated to establishing international solidarity between the Cuban people and the world.&nbsp;The poster was designed by Felix Beltrán, considered the father of the Cuban poster, as he was responsible for the modernist institutional image of the Cuban Revolution for over twenty years. He designed such recognizable pieces as this duo-tone rendition of Alberto Korda’s definitive photograph of the Guerrillero Heroico, and the widely circulated “Libertad para Angela Davis” OSPAAAL poster in technicolor.Beltrán began his career in graphic design working for the global advertising company McCann-Erickson in New York at age 15; there, he studied under Theodor Adorno and Erich Fromm. By 1962, he returned to Cuba to apply his learning to the Revolution, setting to work the techniques he learned from the U.S. advertising enterprise against itself and for the creation of a revolutionary consciousness and a new mode of popular art; becoming the head graphic designer for the propaganda department of the Communist Party of Cuba in the process. By the 1980s, with the crisis in Cuba arising from dwindling Soviet support, he exiled himself to Mexico (a decision some read as abandonment), where he became a teacher and commercial designer. Beltrán died in December 2022; a retrospective of his career, Felix Beltrán Inteligencia Visual, was posthumously exhibited in the Complutense Art Centre in Madrid in January 2023.“The poster could circulate in countries where a functionary was not allowed to otherwise speak about the ideas of the [Cuban] revolution.”Condition as described in catalogue note. Four fold lines from folding into eighths, and four open tears (&lt; 1 ½ in.) along folds at outer margins, where the poster was originally stapled to the magazine; these tears have given the poster a slight hourglass shape.Rare two-sided poster published in Oz Magazine no. 8, issued in January 1968, two months after the death of Che Guevara. The first side of the poster was surely meant to be a psychedelic homage to the revolutionary, but notoriously printed a gruesome picture of the dead revolutionary and misspelled his name. The caption under a color halftone photograph of his corpse and printed eulogy reads, “Geuvara is Dead … Long Live Geuvara!” A wholly unrelated sex-cum-swingers-cum-psychedelic-porn poster, “While Dad’s Away, Mums Will Play,” is printed on verso.Condition as described in catalogue note. Extremities lightly bumped, otherwise a nice, clean copy.&nbsp;Poster of "Tania," Patty Hearst's nom de guerre in the Symbionese Liberation Army (SLA).&nbsp;Patty Hearst was the granddaughter of the real-life Citizen Kane, the U.S. news magnate William Randolph Hearst. In February 1974, the small urban-guerilla group known as the SLA kidnapped the 19-year-old Hearst from her Berkeley apartment in a strategic maneuver. But just two months after her abduction, she released an audiotape declaring that she had joined the guerilla group and adopted the name Tania — an homage to the alias of Che Guevara's insurgent comrade, Tamara Bunke.She made national news for taking part in the SLA’s bank robberies, gunfights, and heists, and became a fugitive. Nineteen months after her abduction, she was arrested and sentenced to prison in a highly publicized trial, during which her defense pleaded brainwashing by the SLA. Upon her release from prison in 1979, she married her bodyguard police officer, wrote a memoir, and by 1990, she began featuring in a series of five films directed by John Waters.&nbsp;These posters were rapidly produced in Berkeley following the circulation of an image showing Hearst's participation in the SLA. The posters were hung all over the Bay Area in solidarity, not so much with the disorganized aims of the SLA, but rather for the unlikely image of Hearst committing class suicide ... or something."I'm Tania.
