She had wanted to make sculptures, but her attempts kept collapsing, and as she was “[t]oo humiliated to withstand the derision of [her] mostly male cohorts,” she began instead to sew and hang sculptures on herself. In a 2024 interview with The Kitchen she said, “I was six feet tall and could carry anything I could make and—not fall over.
