The coins often valorize and congratulate aggressive and disturbing police practices and worldviews. The book was published by Research and Destroy New York City, a radical zine collective producing DIY publications at the intersection of art and abolishing the police. Through a research-oriented practice and a rigorous application of what they call a "photocopy-scamming praxis," they aim to raise critical awareness of how the police suck and are bad.&nbsp;"There are many stories about the origin of challenge coins, all probably apocryphal. What is certain, though, is their roots in American military culture, their rise in popularity after World War II, and their eventual adoption by law enforcement over the proceeding decades.
