A portfolio of prints published to commemorate the opening of Boo-Hooray's "Ed Wood's Sleaze Paperbacks" exhibition in 2011. The prints reproduce illustrations and pages from For Love or Money, Side-show Tren, and Diary of a Transvestite Hooker.Following this exhibition Boo-Hooray placed the Ed Wood Jr. Sleaze Paperbacks Collection, the largest known holdings of Ed Wood’s pornographic material, at Cornell University's Human Sexuality Collection.Wood Jr.’s career as an author of pornographic pulp fiction is even more complicated and unusual than his career as a film director. By the early 1960s, having run out of the funding needed to continue making his own movies, he began writing pornographic literature for quick money (as well as working, when he could, on porn films – softcore in the 60s, hardcore by the 70s). Using a variety of pseudonyms as well as his own name, he published and republished books under different titles, for the sort of publishers whose books were non-traditionally distributed, where more than one author shared the same name, which rarely kept records, or paid royalties.Wood’s sleaze fiction is as strange, idiosyncratic and out of step with his times and mores as his infamous movies. In the 1960s his quickie pulp narratives are spliced with lengthy philosophical, sociological and psychological discourse, often told in first person, many times dealing with the life of a transvestite in the buttoned-up America of the 1950s. His inner psyche is as much on display, both deliberately and accidentally, in these novels as it is in his films. As Wood descended further into alcoholism and poverty, and as his opportunities to make even hardcore porn films vanished, his writing showed ever-fewer flourishes of his eccentric personality, until finally there were nearly none at all. He died in 1978 of an alcohol-induced heart attack.Condition as described in catalogue note. Photographic frontispiece mounted opposite members' list. Corners lightly bumped.Limited edition of 50 hand-numbered copies, this copy produced hors commerce. The report delivered during the third meeting of the Corine Society, a society "founded early in the last century to honour the memory of Frederick Rolfe Baron Corvo, to recommend his writings, and to explain away his life." An eccentric English writer, photographer, and Catholic priest manqué, Corvo has remained an obscure figure in the history of modernist literature; his work received a wider audience through the A.J.A. Symon's seminal biography, The Quest for Corvo.A tongue-in-cheek report, the speaker Roert Scoble, notes, "Ours is an exclusive club, which wields quite disproportionate power in this country and in several others, partly because of the stratospheric eminence of its Members but principally because of its immense wealth. Produced while she was working as a photographer's assistant, Mitchell said, "... almost all the jobs we did were at Milk. I guess I was a pretty bad photo assistant as I was fired in December because of the drawings." Turkington once said, "I was hired to entertain a bachelor party in the back room at a very good pizza parlor, and someone was recording the show. And then it ended up as a record. I never heard the record, but I did see a copy, and was surprised. I guess anything can happen, and you can’t stop it."According to the back of the sleeve, we produced 25,000 copies in a "limited and numbered edition," but none were ever numbered.
